1.      Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) Grant:  It is a great pleasure to announce that The Schreiber Research Group (TSRG) and the Otero County Health Department (OCHD) collaborative application for the federal Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) Rural Communities Opioid Response Program implementation grant has been recommended for approval by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP)!  The Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) is a multi-year initiative by HRSA aimed at reducing the morbidity and mortality of substance use disorder (SUD), including opioid use disorder (OUD), in high risk rural communities. This ambitious project will augment and complement other initiatives that are currently underway (e.g. OD2A, Communities That Care, Regional Opioid Abatement, and MAT Expansion with the Rural Recovery Network).

Combining efforts and looking to reduce duplication will take a good deal of coordination, patience, collaboration, and forethought. So, in the coming weeks, we will be digging into the details.

The grant is for a 3-year period and is scheduled to begin in September 1, 2022. We are in the process of hiring for 2 key positions, building an Advisory Council, coordinating with the Core Project Team and preparing to launch 8 work groups:  Provider Billing, Data, Naloxone, Public Information, Research, Training, Treatment and Recovery, and Workforce Planning.  We feel fortunate that we can continue the work started during the previous HRSA Planning Grant. With this funding, we now have an opportunity to implement new strategies to reduce opioid morbidity and mortality in our rural communities. 2.      Real Stories about Pregnancy, Parenting and Mental Health Videos:  The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) is working on updating its campaign to increase awareness and fight stigma related to depression, anxiety, and the overall stress related to pregnancy, pregnancy loss, and parenting young children. CDPHE is looking for individuals who have had these types of life experiences and are comfortable sharing their story. Videos are due by September 15th, 2022.

ü  How to participate: Participants will create a short video that will be used in the Pregnancy Related Depression (PRD) campaign advertisements.

ü  Getting paid: Those who submit videos will be offered a $150 stipend for their time in the form of an electronic Visa gift card.

ü  The easy video recording process: All you need is a smartphone! The videos will be collected through the Storyvine platform. This platform is simple to use and cues up questions that you can answer on camera.

ü  Interested in participating?: Please fill out this form if you’re interested, and read the instructions for more information on how to download the StoryVine App and record your story. Please contact the PRD team with questions at PRDandParenting@gmail.com

ü  More details: The video will be in a similar style as those done through one of our partners, Tough As a Mother. Here are some examples of those videos

ü  Thank you in advance for sharing your story! Sharing is a courageous act that will help others who are going through something similar.
