Description: The La Junta Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of Grace Avenue on Tuesday afternoon. We spoke with La Junta Fire Chief Brad Davidson about the incident.

The La Junta Fire Department released the following report:

"At approx 416pm today we responded to a reported structure fire in the 900 blk of Grace. Up arrival of Chief Davidson heavy fire seen in the front corner of the house coming out the windows and heavy smoke coming out of the eves."

"A quick hit with hand lines from the outside and transitioned to an interior attack. Started to search for victims on the main floor and fire attack as well."

"A second alarm for a working structure fire was put out to volunteers and staff."

"While fight the fire two known homeless people came running out of the basement of the house and attempted to run from the scene. A female and male were detained by La Junta PD."

"The female stated nobody else was in the house but a secondary search was called for to make sure. The female also stated they had started a fire in the house to stay warm since there were no utilities to the house."

"The property is not theirs. They were placed into custody for possible arson charges."

"Extensive overhaul took place to make sure all hot spots were out since the fire did extensive damage to the interior of the house and attic."

"No injuries were reported. Thanks to the LJPD for the assistance."
