Obituary

Larry Dean Mason, 67, went to be with the lord and his parents on Friday, April 13, 2023 in Olney Springs. Larry was born, Tuesday, March 13, 1956 in Rocky Ford to Calvin & Velma Mason of Fowler Colorado.

He attended school where he became quite an athlete in football, basketball, and track. He was also a member of 4-H and FFA. He graduated Fowler High in 1974. He was a loving son and brother especially in later years when his mother could use the extra care.

Shortly after school Larry married Karen Moreland in 1974 and had three children, Kimmi, Nick, and Ria. After many years of raising a family he married the love of his life Gale Green on January 1st, 1999 and gained two more daughters Lynell and Mindy. Meantime he was blessed with many wonderful grandchildren. His love and devotion to his wife, children, and grandchildren was incredible. Any time someone needed him, he stopped what he was doing to be there with a hug and the very best advice and life-lessons.

Throughout Larry’s life he worked for Green’s Trucking, owned Mason’s Pump Service, was foreman for the city of Fowler, referee for high school football, farmed family land, owned Mason Custom Stacking, and more recently drove tractor for Knapp Farms. For over 20 years he volunteered for the Fowler Fire Department where he was known for often being first on the scene and showing up as fast as humanly possible.

Some of his greatest joys included watching kids and grandkids in sporting events, visiting and playing Yahtzee with his wife Gale, teasing loved ones to see that smile, helping kids with 4-H projects, watching the Denver Broncos, driving tractor where he found true moments of peace, traveling to Arizona to visit his son and grandkids, and having coffee with great friends every morning.

He leaves behind his wife Gale, children and grandchildren Kimmi & Terry Eberle (Shyan & Kalli), Nick Mason (Caden & Grayce), Ria & Tim Boatman (Jake, Cloey, Jimmy, Adrianna, Madison, & Karlee), Lynell Johnston (Brandon & Justin), and Mindy Green (Heather, Hailey, & Joven), siblings Barbara & Mack Fair, Jim & Sammi Mason, Gary & Andrea Mason, and Sandy Robertson, many nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Calvin Mason, Velma Leggott, step-father George Leggott, and mother-in-law Shirley Hillburn.

A Celebration of life will be held, Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the Fowler High School Gymnasium
