Huge Turnout in La Junta for the Colorado Rockies Youth Baseball Clinic

La Junta Parks & Rec Hosted The Colorado Rockies for a Youth Baseball Camp on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 22nd St. Field.

SECO News spoke with La Junta Parks and Rec Director Brock Hinkhouse about the event.

Approximately 250-300 kids attended the camp, Hinkhouse said, it started with Mayor Joe Ayala reaching out to the Rockies through the La Junta connection with the Minnesota Twins via La Junta High School Alum Joel Ortiz.

They were not used to having this many kids in their youth baseball camps, Hinkhouse said, even up in Denver, they said they usually only have 70 or 80 kids.

About 24 volunteers including Coaches from Otero College, La Junta High School, former players, current players, and softball players made the event possible with so many kids in attendance.

When asked if he had anything to add, Hinkhouse said, "This is pretty fun..." Hinkhouse thanked Otero College, La Junta High School and Several Local club softball teams who came together to bring the Colorado Rockies to Southeast Colorado.
