Into the Woods Jr. is a Delightful Fairytale Mashup with Plays in The Park

Into the Woods Jr. is a delightful fairytale romp directed by Bethany Taullie and Bridget Briscoe, this is the second production the two have co-directed as part of their youth-led theater company, Plays in the Park. With music and lyrics by Stephen Soundheim, Based on the Book by James Lapine, and originally directed on Broadway by James Lapine.

When a Wicked Witch, played by Isabella Ortiz, places a multigenerational curse on a baker and his wife, played by Noah Nunez Rebel and Lindsey Briscoe, they journey into the woods to lift the curse. This fairytale mashup blends characters from family favorite tales like Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Rapunzel as the baker and his wife try to break the curse by collecting the magical items requested by the witch. The list of items include a "cow as white as milk," from Jack, a "cape as red as blood," from Red Riding Hood, a "slipper as pure as gold," from Cinderella, and "hair as yellow as corn," from Rapunzel. As the baker and his wife collect the magic items (we didn't forget the beans!) they unwittingly lend their hands in fulfilling the traditional children's stories. 

The couple's quest to reverse the witches curse leads them on an adventure filled with song and trials and tribulations into the fairytale woods. See the show this weekend at Live Well Park in La Junta and support our local youth-led theater group, Plays in The Park!
