Obituary

Gracia Beth Lowman, 85, of La Junta passed away August 25, 2023, at the Healthcare Resort of Colorado Springs in Colorado Springs, CO. She was born, June 9, 1938, to Dr. Willis Claude and Frances Winifred (Schneider) Hansen in Topeka, KS.

Gracia’s early years were spent in Joplin, MO where her dad was stationed during WWII. She and her family returned to Topeka after the war where she then graduated high school. She attended Baker University where she received her teaching certificate. While there, Gracia met and married Robert Wilson. Through this union three daughters were born, Deborah, Deanna and Cynthia.

Gracia enjoyed 20 years of teaching at ARCVA, Girch Center and La Junta Jr. High School. During this time, she married Don Lowman on May 28, 1988. They enjoyed 31 happy years together traveling the world. In addition to teaching, she enjoyed singing in the Methodist Church Choir and the Christmas Messiah Choir. Gracia was a member of the Suzanna Wesley Circle and the United Methodist Church of La Junta. She was a proud member of P.E.O. Chapter GM.

Gracia was known as a kind and loving friend to all who knew her. Despite her multiple sclerosis, she never allowed it to interfere with anything she wanted to do in her life. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and community.

Gracia is survived by her daughters, Linda D. (Robert) Smith of Grand Island, NE; Deborah A. Smith of La Junta, CO; Deanna L. (Benjamin) Tucker of Jacksonville, FL; Cynthia B. (Daryl) Rains of La Junta, CO; brother, Larry (Barbara) Hansen of Gillsville, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer (Ted) Wismeier of Kansas City, MO; Linda Kay (Maerc) Cabrera of Tampa, FL; Mark (Lisa) Smith of Tampa, FL; Sarah F. (Trevor) Campbell of Florissant, CO; Floyd E. Tucker of Jacksonville, FL; Katie F. Tucker of Jacksonville, FL; Taylor (Tessa Maras) Rains of Commerce City, CO; David Rains & Isaac Rains of La Junta, CO; Kimberly Lowman of Warren, MI; & Renee (Mike) Yustick of Warren, MI; great-grandchildren, Erin Wismeir, Emma & Kai Cabrera,

Kayton, Asher, Mackenzie & Jameson Campbell, Melina Tucker, Danielle & Robert Yustick; nieces, Susan (George) Huckabee of Topeka, KS & Anna Marie (Bill) Jones of Gainsville, GA; nephews, Stephan (Lisa) Hansen of Gillsville, GA & Bradley (Renee) Hansen of Charlottesville, SC. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Lowman and parents, Willis & Frances Hansen.

Memorial Service for Gracia will be held, 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 1, 2023, at The United Methodist Church in La Junta, with Pastor Lynn Tabb officiating with interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.
