Winners were honored Sunday during a reception at the Fine Arts League’s Early Settlers Day Art Show, held Sept. 8-10 at the Koshare Museum.

Kirk Shiflett won Best of Show for his oil painting, “Into the Unknown;” Char Hosea won Juror’s Choice for her 3D art, “Charlotte Spider;” and Corky McKenzie won People’s Choice for her pastel, “Close to Truchas.”

This year’s judge was Teresa Vito, who has a BA in Fine Art from the State University of New York at Geneseo. She has taught and studied art at the Art Students League at Denver and the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts, and has expanded her knowledge by taking numerous workshops with artists Quang Ho, Ramon Kelley, Clyde Aspevig, Mike Lynch, Greg McHuron, Laura Robb and Nancy Guzik, and Greg Kreutz and Robert Johnson. Vito painted with acclaimed Master Artist Richard Shmid for five years.

Vito has conducted workshops and painted in various locations in Colorado and New Mexico as well and France, Mexico, Italy, Thailand, Laos, Spain, Morocco, the Greek Island Hydra and Mexico. She loves to travel and looks forward to expanding her places traveled list.

In addition, she is the artist for the Pueblo Chili Brand, now featured on a Colorado license plate.

The 2003 Fine Arts League Patrons are: First National Bank, Dave and Janet Hill, Phillips Communications, Ed and Clara Lee Stafford, Jim and Nancy Rizzuto, Brundage Land Surveying, Mike and Mary Sue Nicklos, Dr. Richard Shand, and Ann Richards.

Fine Arts League President Kirk Shiflett expressed his thanks to members, artists, our patrons, and all those people who stepped in and made our annual show a success this weekend, (including) those who provided cookies and drinks. Thanks again for all your help, Jeremy Manyik, curator of the Koshare Museum. It was a lot of fun; there were some awesome local artists. We are looking forward to next year!
