Obituary

 

Albert A. Gonzales, of Capulin, Colorado, entered into rest on December 18, 2023, at Conejos County Hospital. Albert was born to Telesfor Gonzales and Andrea Romero on January 8, 1936, in La Jara, Colorado. He was 87 years of age.

Albert served in the US Navy as a boilerman, a proud veteran who enjoyed talking about his time in the service. He worked a variety of jobs throughout his life and was trained as a machinist. He returned to the valley where he retired from the Rakhra mushroom farm in 2005.

In his free time, he enjoyed watching football and western movies, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. Albert liked listening to music and collecting coins. Albert was a devoted father who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was always quick to laugh and enjoyed a good joke. Albert was a devout Catholic who attended church religiously and volunteered his time as a Eucharistic minister in his community. Albert was a generous man who enjoyed helping others and was always helping anyone in need.

Albert is survived by his brothers Peter (Nancy) Gonzales, Arthur (Mary) Gonzales, Alfred (Jane) Gonzales and Sister Helen Maestas, his children, Vince (Monica) Gonzales of Mesa, AZ, Denise (James) DeHerrera of Northglenn, CO, Adam Gonzales of Brighton, CO, and Aaron Gonzales of Capulin, CO. Grandchildren Erica (David) Zambrano, Kevin, Jason, and Patrick Gonzales, Jacinda Perea-Gonzales, Dylan DeHerrera, Destiny Gonzales, Giovanni Gonzales. Great-grandkids David Medina, Monique Zambrano, Maya Zambrano, Jacianna Sauzo, Azayleah Sauzo.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Telesfor and Andrea Gonzales, Sister Dora (Jose) Malaxechevarria and brother-in-law Adelmo Maestas. Theresa Gonzales, and his children, Dominic Gonzales, Rachael Gonzales, Patrick Gonzales, and Benedict Gonzales. Grandson Richard Olivas and Great-grandson Damian Zambrano.

A rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin, Colorado. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 22, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin, Colorado followed by a Committal at the Capulin Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of Johnson Romero Family Funeral Home.
