Obituary

Dorene Sue Pool went to the loving arms of Jesus Christ her Savior on December 13, 2023 in Chandler Arizona. She was born on January 24, 1960 to Fletcher M. Pool and Joyce E. Pool of Grand Prairie, Texas. At the age of one, her family moved to Colorado where she went to school and her love of music blossomed. At Edison Elementary School in Denver, she began playing viola in her school orchestra. She continued playing at Skinner Junior High and North High School, and in various honor orchestras. After graduation, she studied at the University of Northern Colorado, and got her bachelor’s degrees in music education and performance. She followed this with a Master of Music in Music Pedagogy from the University of Texas in Austin. Dorene began her music teaching career teaching orchestra in McAllen, Texas. Later on, she moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area to teach orchestra in the Mesa School District.

She had a passion for teaching orchestra to the disadvantaged kids in her school districts. Outside school, she played with various groups including the MusicaNova Orchestra, the East Valley Pops Orchestra, and the Kuchen String Quartet. She also played at her church, at events such as wedding receptions, and once played at a film premiere.

Dorene enjoyed travelling and exploring, visiting almost all fifty states, and taking a trip to Europe. She had a great appreciation of natural beauty and local history. She was initially drawn to the mountains of Colorado through family trips to the cabin. Later on, she got to spend a summer at the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park, Colorado and another summer during college working in Montana at Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park where she enjoyed long hikes on her days off. After she started teaching, she fell in love with fly fishing, and her fishing trips took her many places including back to Montana.

She eventually was able to travel to Alaska four times on guided fishing trips that included flying to remote areas by float plane. A highlight for her was finally seeing Denali on her third trip to Alaska. Her other travels included driving to visit interesting historical sites and places where her ancestors lived.

Dorene also made a point of traveling often to visit family and friends. She was a very caring daughter, spending much of her summer breaks from teaching with her parents in Ordway, Colorado. She was a great help to her father and mother as they grew older. She often travelled to see her siblings in Texas, Washington, and Colorado as well. Between school, college, and her music teaching career, she made very many lifelong friends that she kept in close touch with. She and her friends spent holidays and took road trips together. She became an honorary aunt to some of her friends' children. The friends she made while fishing in Alaska made a point to fish together on subsequent trips.

Dorene often talked about the faith in God shown by her parents, siblings and friends. After giving much consideration and reflecting on answers to difficult questions, she placed her trust in Jesus Christ. As a result, she was baptized and became a member of the Chandler Presbyterian Church in Chandler, Arizona. She was very involved with her church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Fletcher M. Pool and Joyce E. Pool. She is survived by her older brother Samuel E. Pool and sister-in-law Dorothy Pool of Garland Texas; her younger brother James O. Pool of Lakewood Colorado; and her sister Sylvia P. Norton, brother-in-law Edward Norton, nephew Eddie, and niece Meredith of Bothell, Washington.
She made a great impact during the time she had with us and will dearly be missed by her family and her many friends.
