Obituary

Dean Jones, 85, of La Junta, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Crowley County Nursing Care Center in Ordway, Colorado surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born Thursday, April 8, 1938, in La Junta, CO to Ralph & Audrey (Baker) Jones.

A second-generation Chevy dealer, Dean was also a passionate and devoted family man. His life revolved around his kids and grandchildren. An avid slalom water skier, his family spent warm weekends at the lake, when he wasn’t traveling to swim meets, cheering from the sidelines. Dean also enjoyed snow skiing, snow-mobiling. He participated in dirt track car racing as the crew chief for his son D.J., and hauling cattle to local, regional, and national shows where he supervised the “cattle dressing”, stalls and showing tips. His zealousness for yard work was incredible. Adorned with a shovel and his little John Deere tractor, usually accompanied by his wife Sharon, and two or three grandchildren, he’d labor for hours to enhance his landscape.

Dean was not only a family man, but an active member of his community and actively attended the La Junta Nazarene Church. He was devoted to improving growth and expansion throughout the valley as a member of La Junta Economic Development, a member of the Rocky Ford Rotary Club, and a member of the board of directors at Rocky Ford Federal Savings and Loan.

He will certainly be missed. Always remembered, never forgotten ----- We love you!

Dean is survived by his wife Sharon Jones of La Junta, CO; children, Shawndra Jones of Tucumcari, NM; Diana (Shawn) Jenkins of Rocky Ford, CO; D.J. (Michelle) Jones of Swink, CO; grandchildren, Tyler Copeland, Makenna Reddoch, Cade Jenkins, Jentry Jenkins, Skyler Jones and Colby Jones; sisters, Jeannine Daniels and Marcia (Bill) Hatcher; nephew, Will (Adrian) Hatcher; niece, Jessica (Ben) Scantlin; great-nephews, Benjamin & Tyson Andres, Liam Hatcher; great-niece, Cora Hatcher. He is preceded by his parents and niece, Jennifer Daniels-Andres.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford with Pastor Gary Addington, Sr. officiating. The family requests you dress casually and honor Dean by wearing blue, Chevy or Trump attire.
