The 20th Judicial District Attorney's Office held a Town Hall to walk through the officer involved shooting incident on Highway 36 and McCaslin Boulevard on December 24, 2023. No charges will be filed against the involved officers.

In an effort to be as transparent as possible, we are releasing a timeline video compilation of the incident in its entirety.

"No words can erase the pain that Mr. Inda's family and friends are experiencing, we hope with time they find healing," stated Col. Matthew Packard, chief of the Colorado State Patrol. "One of the most difficult and emotional calls handled in policing today is responding to an individual in pain, while also armed. It is my hope that all of those professionals on the scene that day also heal in time."

Colorado State Patrol Releases Footage from Fatal Officer Involved Shooting In Boulder County

(Boulder County, CO) This morning at approximately 11:40 a.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to the area of Highway 36 and McCaslin Boulevard to assist a motorist.

When the trooper approached the vehicle, he noticed bullet holes in the window, backed away, and radioed for additional officers.

Once additional personnel arrived, the original trooper and deputies from the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office managed to talk the individual out of the vehicle and he put a firearm down on the car.

During attempts to de-escalate, the individual picked up the weapon and pointed it at law enforcement. Shots were fired at that point.

A piece of one law enforcement member's equipment was struck by gunfire, but ultimately, no injuries were sustained by the officer.

Despite law enforcement's efforts to provide first aid, the individual died on scene and the firearm was recovered.

Colorado State Patrol Troopers and Boulder County Sheriff's Deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

The Critical Incident Team for the 20th Judicial District, also known as the Boulder County Investigation Team (“BCIT”), is investigating this incident (see boiler plate below).

ABOUT THE BOULDER COUNTY INVESTIGATION TEAM (BCIT)

This multi-agency team is designated to investigate use-of-force incidents in which any law enforcement officer used deadly, or potentially deadly, physical force against a person while acting under the color of official law enforcement duties.

Following this incident, the law enforcement agencies involved quickly notified the BCIT.  The BCIT immediately responded and will conduct a thorough, independent investigation.

Consistent with protocol, the Colorado State Patrol and Boulder County Sheriff’s Office will not participate in the investigation into the use of force by their law enforcement officers.

The District Attorney and members of the District Attorney’s Office have, also, responded to this incident. Once the investigation is completed, District Attorney Michael Dougherty will review the investigation and determine whether or not the use of force was justified under the law.
