Small Town Project Awarded $354,990 Grant from The Colorado Trust

Rocky Ford, CO - [July 17, 2024] - Small Town Project is excited to announce the receipt of a substantial $354,990 grant from The Colorado Trust in support of our mission to improve food access in Crowley, Otero, and Bent counties in southeast Colorado. The grant, part of the Community Resilience Initiatives (CRI) Building Sustainable Food Systems program, will empower us to launch a comprehensive delivery service for healthy food boxes, addressing food insecurity and promoting health equity in our community.

The project will focus on the development and implementation of an innovative online and telephone ordering system for the delivery service, streamlining the process and making it more convenient for community members. A strategic outreach and marketing campaign will raise awareness and engagement among residents, complemented by the purchase of a 14-passenger van to support transportation for food deliveries and non-medical rides.

Over the next 30 months, Small Town Project will roll out and operationalize the delivery service, host a series of healthy eating workshops, and conduct a thorough evaluation of the program's impact with a specific focus on equity and sustainability. The ultimate goal is to establish a food system that will drive long-term positive change throughout the southeast region.

"We are extremely grateful for the support of The Colorado Trust, as this grant will enable us to create employment opportunities and expand our initiatives aimed at combatting food insecurity and enhancing health outcomes in our community," stated Duane Gurulé, Co-Founder and Development Director at Small Town Project.
