Bent County Communities that Care Youth Recognition awards

Glow Up Award: A young person who has experienced a lot of personal growth in the last year and is making great strides to continue their transformation.

Recipient: Yazmine Hernandez

Nomination Narrative: Yazmine navigated her teenage years with a lack of support and consistency from her family and home.  She graduated from high school in 2019 due to her own perseverance, determination and tenacity.

At times, she lived with school staff members, extended family and friends.  She balanced full time high school and nearly full time employment and bought her very own 1st car all on her own.  Currently, she is employed full-time at Las Animas School District.

She has excellent attendance and fills in whenever and however she can to help.  She picks up extra shifts and extra duties all with a smile.

This young adult has a house of her own, pays all her own bills and manages to help other family and friends however she can. She has plans to continue working full time and hopefully pursue a college education.  She is most deserving of the Glow Up Award!

(The intention of the Communities That Care Youth Recognition Award is to acknowledge youth for their contributions to community outside of just athletics and academics and instead focus on some of the ways they make the world better.)
