MILDRED'S OBITUARY

Mildred M. Martinez, 83 of Rocky Ford, Colorado passed away Thursday March 4, 2021 at Cottonwood Ridge.

Mildred was born in Capulin, Colorado on April 20, 1937, the daughter of the late Faustina (Barela) Martinez and Emilio Martinez.

Mildred attended the Rocky Ford School System. She was employed by Frozen Foods for numerous years. She was also a nanny to a few children.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Mildred was a member of St. Ann’s club at St. Peter’s. She also volunteered in the kitchen at St. Peters Catholic Church when needed. She was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Mildred also volunteered at the Thrift Shop.

Mildred was a beautiful, sincere and loving person. She had a strong faith. She genuinely cared for others. She was always ready to lend a hand where needed. She was such a Blessing to our family. We will miss her love and bright smile. She was a life-long Christian and Catholic who attended the Catholic Church. She at one time had the ambition to become a nun, but instead went on to serve the Lord in her own way. One of those ways was to be a caretaker to any family member in need. She was a servant.

Mildred enjoyed visiting with others. She easily made friends. She was a good friend to many. She enjoyed attending gatherings and Christian fellowship with others over meals. She was one of the first to volunteer to bring a dish or many times dishes to meals.

Mildred was a person of the soil. She could often be found picking chili, tomatoes, onions or cucumbers with her brother Orlando. She made delicious hot sauce. She also did a lot of canning. She was a wonderful cook. Christmas and Thanksgiving always meant delicious meals and snacks. She and (Jenny) always made the most delicious empanadas ever. Mildred also added her biscochitos, fudge and peanut brittle. They also made the bierokes. Mildred often made tortillas and the best potato burritos. She always made a couple dozen to send home with us. So delicious! She also added her enchiladas and fideo. She was also a great baker. She had a special cakes for different occasions. She made us our favorite cakes.

Mildred’s favorite pass time was looking at cookbooks, clipping recipes and watching the cooking channel. She enjoyed discussing her recipes. She then went on to try them. They were delicious. She also enjoyed embroidery, knitting and quilting.

Brother Orlando Martinez, of Rocky Ford, CO
Sister Chris (Daniel) Chaparro, of Colorado Springs, CO
Special nephew and God Child, Matt (Lauren) Chaparro, of Goddard, KS
She is also survived by Special great-nephews: Lawson, Landry, Kyle and Phillip (LeAnn), as well as great-niece Hazel and numerous other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. There were also a few children that were fortunate to have had her as their nanny.

She was preceded in death by her parents; very special sister and best friend Jenny Anderson and her husband Jim; other sisters: Lupe Martinez and Cordy (Salvador) Martinez and three sisters that passed away at a very young age.

A Rosary Service will be held at 9:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00 AM on Wednesday March 10, 2021 both at St. Peters Catholic Church in Rocky Ford, Colorado with Fr. Soosai officiating. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Rocky Ford, Colorado.
