Obituary

Pascual “Pete” Solis, 78, of La Junta passed away on April 14, 2021 at the St. Mary Corwin Hospital in Pueblo. He was born on August 31, 1942 in Forsyth, Montana to Juan & Petra (Sanchez) Solis.

He moved to La Junta in 1957 with his family. Pete’s parents bought a farm in North La Junta when he was 15 years old and worked on the farm until the age of 18, when he was enlisted in the United States Marines during The Vietnam War, up until 1968. Pete returned back to La Junta for a short time then moved to Denver where he attended Barber College. Pete worked as a barber and also taught his skills in the college he graduated in. Pete returned back to La Junta in 1976, and met his wife Barbara they married November 18, 1978. Pete and Barbara had two children together. The family moved to Independence Kansas in 1979 and returned to La Junta in 2004. Pete enjoyed telling Marine stories, giving haircuts, fishing, listening to music, working on cars, cooking with his wife Barbara, loved his baby Cricket, and taking evening rides. Pete will be resting with his parents, Juan & Petra Solis, brothers, Ted, John, David and sisters, Carmen and Cecelia.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Solis of the La Junta home; children, Shaun Solis of Colorado Springs; Theodore Solis of Jefferson City, MS; Peter Solis of Denver; Marlene Solis of Denver; Bonnie Solis of Portland, OR; Rick (Sabrina) Martinez of Lakewood, CO; Jerry (Janette) Martinez of Pueblo; Annette (Louis) Perez of La Junta; Randy (Catherine) Martinez of La Junta; numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren; the love of his life, Cricket, his little poodle; siblings, Isabelle Zumwalt of La Junta; Domingo Solis of Bartlesville, OK; Juanita Samora and Joe (Tammy) Solis all of Independence, KS; several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ted Solis, John Solis and David (Lydia) Solis; sisters, Carmen and Cecelia.

A funeral services will be Monday, April 19, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Assembly of God with Pastor James Crandall officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in La Junta.
