A wonderful event happened in Las Animas last Saturday!  The community rallied to help the VFW Post #2411 with a very successful fundraiser – it was amazing!

The highlight of the event was a long overdue thanks to the VFW Post #2411 Honor Guard that has served at funerals for many years.  Those thanked were Billy Bob Deatherage, Joe Gonzales, Rudy Montoya and Roberto Montoya (not present).

Each of them was presented with a gift of $50 from the Auxiliary by Jess Garcia, Commander.  These men and many before them have provided services at funerals when we lose our veterans, and their dedication to the families of deceased veterans is appreciated.

The Auxiliary and Post started the day with a yard sale; selling homemade burritos and cinnamon rolls; chances for 50/50 split; a silent auction; and ended the event with a delicious hamburger fry.

The Post provided the meat and beans and the Auxiliary salads and desserts.

Many thanks to all those who worked hard to provide this event; to those who donated items for the yard sale and silent auction; to those that purchased yard sale and food items; and to all those that made personal donations!  God bless our veterans, and God bless America!
