Obituary

Ronald Edward Lucero, 62, of La Junta passed away on December 15, 2021. He was born January 30, 1959, in La Junta to Richard and Pearl (Mestas) Lucero.

Ron attended school in La Junta, graduating in 1977. On July 30, 1979, he married his high school sweetheart Jill Trantham. Ron was a loving husband of 42 years. He and Jill were blessed with three children Amber, Rory, and Levi. They were his pride and joy. He was also the adoring Papa to his granddaughter, Alexis Lucero.

Ron was an avid car enthusiast and loved helping others. In the summer of 1989, he began a lifelong passion of stock car racing. He raced dirt and paved ovals over 32 years, garnering a reputation for being a tenacious competitor with unrivaled car control. When asked his favorite pastime, he would say it was spending time with family; especially if it was spent at a racetrack. Ron was selfless, humble, and earnest. He found strength and comfort in God. He loved and was loved by many. His family will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Jill of the La Junta home; children, Amber (Brittany) Ross-Lucero of Thornton, CO; Rory Lucero of Las Vegas, NV; Levi (Elaine) Lucero of Thornton, CO; granddaughter, Alexis Lucero; brothers, Rick (Dee) Lucero of Thornton, CO; Ralph (Violet) Lucero of Hurricane, UT; Robert (Ann) Lucero of Pueblo West; three nieces and two nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard & Pearl Lucero.

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Church of God in La Junta with Pastor Leon Berry officiating.
