RFFD VS Main Street Storage Unit Fire

Rocky Ford Fire Department VS Storage Unit Fire Today at approximately 11:35 am we were paged to 504 North Main Street for a structure fire. 

Rocky Ford Fire Department VS Storage Unit Fire Upon arrival we found the front of the abandoned structure fully engulfed with exposure fires and heavy smoke to adjacent storage units and a grass fire across alley with wind speeds exceeding 30mph. 

Rocky Ford Fire Department VS Storage Unit Fire We requested mutual aid from Manzanola, La Junta, DFPC Engine 34, and Fowler.  Forcible entry was initiated to storage units. 

Rocky Ford Fire Department VS Storage Unit Fire Fire was fought aggressively, to main fire and exposure fires in storage units.  Fire cause determined to be from an outdoor burn barrel near front of abandoned structure not completely extinguished. 

Rocky Ford Fire Department VS Storage Unit Fire Open burning is not allowed in city limits.  Thank you to all firefighters, and OCSO for all your help with this very complex incident. 

All units cleared scene at 2:40pm.
