LJFD VS Creekside Smokehouse Fire

LIVESTREAM Coverage:

On January 1, 2022 the La Junta Fire Department responded to a structure fire at Creekside Smokehouse located just off US Hwy 50 in La Junta.

Multiple agencies assisted including Cheraw Fire Department, Las Animas Fire Department, Rocky Ford Fire Department, and Otero County Sheriff's Office.

Law Enforcement Officers who were on the scene verified that the three employees working got out of the building and at the time there had been no injuries resulting from the incident.

At the time of this report the cause of the fire was not released. It is suspected to be caused by an electrical space heater, according the following social media post, which includes the business owners preferred method for the community to donate:

"Celeste & Damon from Creekside Smokehouse want to thank everyone who has been reaching out asking to help with the aftermath of today’s fire. They are so touched and appreciative.

For anyone who would like to help, they said their main concern right now is being able to continue making payroll while they are attempting to rebuild, so that the employees don’t also suffer more loss. Payroll for them is about $2500 a week and cleanup and rebuilding can take at least a month or two,  so Celeste said anything helps! Gofund me websites keep a portion of all money donated, so a better way to help them is to send money straight to this family via their paypal account. “Sending money to a friend” has no fees for them or you, their paypal is damonnichols1@gmail.com.

Right now it appears the fire may have been caused by an electric space heater."
