RFFD VS Chimney Fire on County rd 19.5

At approximately 10:15 am we were paged to a structure fire at 23491 CR 19.5. 

Upon arrival we found the chimney pushing out heavy flames extending into the attic space.  Mutual aid was requested from Manzanola, and La Junta fire departments. 

We quickly attacked the fire interior and knocked down the chimney fire, although the fire continued to extend to the attic space not accessible from the interior, thus warranting roof operations for access. 

After fire was extinguished we also noticed a propane gas explosion in the house prior to our arrival. 

Fire cause unintentional and determined as improper use of the chimney.
