La Junta Fire Department VS Arkansas River Bottom Fire

The La Junta Fire Department was aided by several agencies including Cheraw at the Otero County Sheriff's Office in fighting a fire on the river bottom in North La Junta on Saturday afternoon.

Church Street and Elm Ave. were blocked to through traffic so First Responders could fight the fire. (Photo credit: Danette Ulloa)

The La Junta Fire Department released the following on social media:

"At approx 328 pm today we responded to the area of Church and Olive in North La Junta for a brush fire. The fire was moving in tall grass and a large group of trees. An aggressive fire attack stopped the fire from moving into the river bottom. Besides La Junta units Cheraw Fire and Otero Sheriff Office Brush truck assisted. The started from a control burn that got out of hand when a gust of wind moved the fire. No injuries."
