OTERO Sheriff VS El Paso County Suspect

May 26, 2022 – La Junta, CO  Early this morning a suspect in a stolen white GMC pickup out of El Paso County, believed to be involved in a burglary and shooting in Pueblo fled on highway 50, later making into Otero County.  The Rocky Ford Police Department briefly pursued the vehicle through Rocky Ford, and the vehicle was clocked at 98 miles per hour coming into La Junta heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic.  La Junta PD and the Colorado State Patrol followed into the BNSF railyard property, and lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, the vehicle was reported to have been abandoned in the back yard of a residence on Canal in North La Junta, and the suspect was later apprehended by OCSO and CSP with the assistance of an armed homeowner on Main Street.

Sheriff Mobley would like to thank the Pueblo Police Department, Rocky Ford Police Department, Colorado State Patrol, Department of Corrections-Parole, CDOT, La Junta Police Department, La Junta Fire Department, a number of good Samaritans, and homeowners for all of their assistance.  I am thankful that no one was hurt during the events this morning, and that there was a peaceful resolution to the incident.
