Obituary

Jon William Brandt, 66, (lovingly know by many area youth as 'Mr. B'), went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 15, 2020, after fighting a hard battle with COVID-19.

Jon was born on July 24, 1954, to Charles and Erma Brandt in Lakeport, CA. He grew up as a pear farmer's son in Kelseyville, CA. After graduation from Kelseyville High School, he pursued a bachelor's degree in Biology at the University of Irvine in southern California. While at UC Irvine, Jon was introduced to Jesus Christ, through a college campus ministry known as the Navigators. Choosing Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior changed the course of his earthly life, and secured his eternity in the presence of his Lord.

After graduating from UC Irvine, Jon completed a Master of Divinity degree at Bob Jones University, in Greenville, SC. While in SC, he met Ruth Ann Klinetop. Jon and Ruth Ann were married in 1983, and have enjoyed 37 1/2 years of marriage. They both have shared a love for the mountains of Colorado, especially the Cuchara, CO. area.

Jon was an assistant pastor to Gerry Zordel, at Calvary Baptist Church in Canon City, CO from July of 1981 to July of 1985. In 1985, the people of La Junta Baptist Tabernacle called him to be their pastor. Jon faithfully served the Lord, here in La Junta, CO., for 35 1/2 years. He was a diligent student of God's Word, and his passion was to preach the exact truth of God's Word. Jon's other passion was being with children and teaching them about God. Jon faithfully worked in AWANA clubs, and taught a children's class on Wednesday nights at the Tabernacle. He was privileged to see many children grow up to love and serve God with their lives. He considered it a privilege to serve God for many years, alongside Pastor Tim Muth, who grew up at the Tabernacle. Jon deeply loved his congregation and considered them his family. For many years, Jon conducted numerous personal Bible studies, Bible Study at the Arkansas Valley Nursing home, and a small Bible study in Cuchara, Co.

In recent years, Jon substituted for the La Junta, Swink, and Rocky Ford School districts, where he was known as 'Mr. B'. He loved the challenges of being a sub, and never tired being around children of all ages.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Erma Brandt, and his mother-in-law, Mary Joanne Klinetop.

Jon is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann Brandt; his sister, Susan (David) Balyis; brother-in-law’s, Tim (Peggy) Klinetop and Steve (Diane) Klinetop; numerous nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at the La Junta Baptist Tabernacle on December 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Tim Muth officiating. Music will be provided by personal friends, Elizabeth Osborn and Steve Godsey, both of Amarillo, TX. The service will be broadcasted on the Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home facebook (you need to like the page).

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the La Junta Baptist Tabernacle, the Navigators, the Arkansas Valley Pregnancy Center, or the Gideons International (Arkansas Valley Camp) C/O Marlene Miller, 416 Santa Fe Ave., La Junta, CO 81050.
