OJC’s 26th Annual International Food Night Virtual Event to be held April 8

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ................................................................ March 2, 2021

LA JUNTA — Otero Junior College will be virtually hosting the 26th annual International Food Night on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. Although this year will look a little different, the staff and students in the International Relations Organization have been working hard to make this a memorable event.

International Foods Night is a long standing traditional event hosted by the OJC International Relations Organization. It serves as the primary source of funding for scholarships that are awarded to international students each semester.

Maureen Rikhof, international relations director said, “International Foods Night is truly one of OJC’s finest traditions and we are excited to have found a creative way to still bring the community together to celebrate the international flavors of our campus. Our students are busy putting together menus, playlists and alternate ways to entertain our community. Our goals remain twofold; to have fun and raise much needed funds! Supporting the international students at OJC is a great reason to come together creatively and festively.”

There are several perks included in the $50 donation, these include: access to the Facebook Live event, a link to a PDF recipe book with recipes for delicious international cuisine, the link to an international playlist of music and the option to purchase one-of-a-kind dessert boxes and access to our online silent auction. Donors will also be able to select one or more countries to represent. As there are 195 countries to choose from, the goal is to cover the entire globe from La Junta, Colorado!

Dessert boxes with treats from around the world will also be available for purchase. Each box is enough to serve four people and is priced at $25. Please reserve boxes in advance to ensure there are enough prepared. Dessert boxes will be available for drive by pickup on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in front of the Humanities Center on the OJC Campus.

Throughout the night on April 8, donors are encouraged to post pictures of their menu, celebrating family or friends, and table displays. Photos will be considered entries for the first ever virtual IFN contest for best menu and best table display.  Prizes will be awarded.

“We promise to bring this event back to a live event as soon as possible,” Rikhof said. “We recognize the importance it has in our community and the students look forward to the event, too! However, we are seeing a silver lining to having the event in a virtual format in that we can invite participation from all over the globe! Alumni, friends and family far from the Arkansas Valley can all join us for this year’s event.”
